The Plustek seemed like a good alternative to the Epson auto-feed scanner that is $600+. We have a flatbed Epson scanner that is great but takes a long time to scan photos one by one. You will get the scanning done but you may not enjoy it.Īs much as I wanted to love this scanner I am going to have to return it. Yet, despite the macOS software, I would recommend the ePhoto Z300 as a means of scanning large numbers of photos. I would not use this device for daily or regular scanning on macOS. This is regrettable as you are entirely dependent on Plustek supporting the device each time macOS is updated. You can not use this device with macOS's Image Capture. The scanner does not appear as a scanner in macOS. This is all with the latest version downloaded from the Plustek web site.
The interface is far from Mac user friendly, crashes occasionally, requires relaunching every so many photos, and is in need of further development.
Mentions of Windows remain within the user interface.
The macOS software is a bad conversion from Windows and suffers for it. Getting the scanner to work initially was fiddly enough that I considered returning the product as broken on arrival. Where the Plustek ePhoto Z300 falls down, is the software for macOS. I was surprised that the scanner could manage photos printed on 4mm thick card – with some assistance to feed them through. Photos were not bent or harmed by passing through the scanner. The hardware is well designed and feels well built. The scanner is undeniably capable and useable.
